'Sunny Twist' Curly Willow

NEW in 2019

This glorious honey-colored curly willow was developed in the breeding program at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry by Rich Kopp in 1999. It is a cross between a Salix babylonica hybrid found in Lafayette, NY and Salix alba, (they gave the accession #99010 to this clone). It must have Salix babylonica f. tortuosa in its genetic make up to account for the twisty stems. It is said to grow fast with consistent tortuosity. From what I have seen of this plant it will make an excellent landscape plant; providing color and interest wherever it's planted. Hardy to Zone 3.

USES: superb ornamental plant, an unusual hedge or screen and great stems for cutting for indoor or outdoor arrangements. Coppicing every 2-3 years will help keep the honey colored stems coming.
