Salix babylonica 'Sunny Twist'

'Sunny Twist' Curly Willow

NEW FOR 2019

This glorious honey-colored curly willow was developed in the breeding program at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry by Rich Kopp in 1999. It is a cross between a Salix babylonica found in Lafayette, NY and Salix alba, that was found naturalized in NY (they gave the accession #99010 to this clone). It is said to grow fast with consistent tortuosity. From what I have seen of this plant it will make an excellent landscape plant; providing color and interest wherever it's planted. Hardy to Zone 3.

USES:  superb ornamental plant, an unusual hedge or screen and great stems for cutting for indoor or outdoor arrangements. Coppicing every 2-3 years will help keep the honey colored stems coming.
